Discovering the Town of the Baroque-style
Itinerary 5 will take you to some artistic centres along the eastern coast of the province where medieval castles stand side by side with baroque churches and villas in Liberty style; the spectacular coastline offers both immaculate beaches and prehistoric sites. Go to Naro, the baroque town of our province, and discover the sumptious churches built around the magnificent medieval Castle. “Medieval-Baroque” also well describes the town of Palma di Montechiaro, with its imposing castle by the sea, the 17th century Duomo and other noble monumental buildings which are the backdrop of the historical novel “Il Gattopardo” by Giuseppe Tommasi di Lampedusa. Licata offers a much wider historical range, from the bronze age to the 19th century: “Stagnone Pontillo” is a mysterious and enigmatic prehistorical site and the centre of town boasts numerous villas and monuments in fine Liberty style. Its up to you where to go and what to see.
